Espíritu de Anaconda is an organization whose objective is the protection, organization and diffusion of traditional Amazonian medicine, also known as ‘vegetalismo’.

Essentially focused in the indigenous Shipibo tradition, Espiritu de Anaconda ( see map ), is a center located in the Peruvian Amazon, close to the town of Iquitos, where a land base of more than 50 acres allows a good representation of all aspects of ‘vegetalismo’ in one area. The center offers traditional cures with the healing center site, a training area with a traditional shamanic preparation in isolated jungle and an alumni organization in charge of diffusing the knowledge around vegetalismo through different projects.

All those areas create a unique perspective and contact with an integral and global vision of the traditional Amazonian medicine, its indigenous roots and implication into modern society. Its founder, Guillermo Arévalo, is recognized worldwide in the field of Amazonian indigenous medicine, both from western academics and indigenous organizations, and especially by his own people the Shipibo-Conibo. Known as Kestenbetsa, his medicine name, ‘echo of the universe’, expesses his level of commitment in the field of Amazonian shamanism.

Today he often leads healing ceremonies but mostly focuses on the training of indigenous and westerners in the field of ‘vegetalismo’ with the same desire of spreading a medicine that finds its roots at the dawn of time.
